Paris has received a video showing French hostage held in Afghanistan

The French authorities have recently received a video showing alive the French humanitarian Dany Egreteau kidnapped in Kabul in early November, it was learned Wednesday from an official working on the French case.

The hostage, who is speaking under duress with weapons trained on him, could not move and have most of the time blindfolded, according to this person.

It was not possible Wednesday to know when the video was shot.

Dany Egreteau, 32, was abducted on Nov. 3 in the heart of Kabul by armed men who killed an Afghan who tried to intervene. Employee of NGO participation in education programs, he arrived less than a week earlier in Afghanistan, for its first mission in that country.

The spectacular kidnappings targeting expatriates or wealthy Afghans in Kabul have increased, demonstrating the power of criminal groups in Afghanistan. These would be related to personalities or former warlords of the anti-Soviet resistance or civil war.

Afghanistan is suffering from the deadly Taliban insurgency which has claimed several kidnappings.

Besides the insurgents, criminal groups and armed gangs proliferate in the country, on the lookout for a ransom in exchange for the release of a wealthy Afghan or a foreigner.
